stupid people
Checked my mailbox and as usual, I'll just delete those forwarded mails without opening it. Today, something caught my eye and I made an exception. Here's why:
PS: this was sent by a final year university student, who is my friend as well.
Hati-hati kepada sesiapa yang suka makan buah2an yang dah siap di ptong...
JANGAN BELI BUAH-BUAHAN YANG TELAH SIAP DI POTONG
Good to know.
A 10 year old boy, had eaten pineapple about 15 days back, and fell sick, from the day he had eaten. Later when he had his health check done...
doctors diagnosed that he had AIDS. His parents couldn't believe it...
Then the entire family under went a check-up... none of them suffered from Aids.
So the doctors checked again with the boy if he had eaten out...The boy said "yes". He had pineapple that evening. Immediately a group from Malaya Hospital went to the pineapple vendor to check. They found the pineapple seller had a cut on his finger while cutting the pineapple, his blood had spread into the fruit. When they had his blood checked...the guy was suffering from AIDS...... but he himself was NOT aware. Unfortunately the boy is suffering from it now. Please take care while you eat on the road side.
Please forward this mail to your dear one.
er.. shouldn't "on the road side" be BY the road side? AND Malaya Hospital DOES NOT EXIST! I'm not that pathetic, have more than 1 "dear one". Probably dear ten. haha
OMG this is ridiculous. Now all the street vendors who sell fruits have to change their careers. Oh wait, what about our mamak stalls? aren't they dangerous?
I mean unless you have a cut in your mouth, you can't really get it. Besides, the virus cannot survive outside the body. It needs to be in body fluids to be harmful enough. See here and here for good explanations about this myth.
The funniest part was that this mail was originally forwarded by an admin staff from a local Malaysian university.
I was flabbergasted. University education, in my opinion is supposed to help people think better and make more sensible choices. Looks like I'm wrong.
The moral of the story is... don't simply forward junk email without filtering it first. Unless you are prepared to embarass yourself.
